Vol. 281 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Transport Service.

44.

asked the Minister for Education if he will sanction school transport for all school children in Iar Áirne and Cill Éinne who attend national and vocational schools at Kilronan, Aran Islands, County Galway.

Primary school children living in the Cill Éinne and Iar Áirne areas already have a transport service to take them to Kilronan National School, and the local CIE office has no record of children having been refused transport on this service. As regards secondary school pupils, there are no applications on hands from such pupils for the current school year but the question of providing transport for pupils from these areas in respect of the 1975-76 school year is currently under examination in the light of applications recently received.

45.

asked the Minister for Education why transport will no longer be provided for many pupils attending Granlahan National School, Ballinlough, County Roscommon.

Facilities have not, as far as I am aware, been refused for any children who are eligible for free transport. If the Deputy will let me have particulars of any cases which he may have in mind, I will have them investigated.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary not aware that he has already the details of a lot of these cases? Is he not further aware that the transport was taken from these pupils in the last six months?

When the Deputy put down the question he did not give the details of any particular pupils.

The unfortunate part about it is that the Deputy is tired writing to the Parliamentary Secretary about the matter. That is why the question was put down.

If the Deputy had given the names of the pupils he was concerned about when he put down the question, I would have been able to answer him in relation to those pupils but he did not do so.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary not agree that a further question had to be put down some months ago before a pupil got transport? Will transport only be given to pupils if parliamentary questions are put down?

This is leading to argument.

If parliamentary questions are put down in a precise manner I will do everything to help.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
