Vol. 281 No. 1

Written Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

270.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a person (name supplied) in Tralee, County Kerry, who has no means, is in receipt of only £1.65 unemployment assistance.

Unemployment assistance is being paid to the person named at the rate to which he is entitled, £1.65 a week. This is the difference between the rate of means assessed, £13.50 a week, and the maximum rate of assistance payable from 2nd April, 1975 which in his case is £15.15 a week. The means are derived from self-employment as handyman and from land. The rate of means was determined, on appeal, by an appeals officer whose decision is final in the absence of new facts or fresh evidence.
