Vol. 281 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Legislative Proposals.

22.

asked the Minister for Justice the legislation he intends to initiate within 12 months from the 1st May, 1975; and the approximate date in the case of each Bill.

(Cavan): In replying on 16th May, 1974, to a similar question, I pointed out that the introduction of legislation by a Minister requires the specific approval of the Government and has to compete for its place in the parliamentary timetable, and that when the Government have approved in principle of new legislation, even an apparently simple Bill frequently gives rise to complex legal difficulties so that any attempt to set specific or even approximate dates for the introduction of a series of Bills during the coming 12 months would be wholly unrealistic.

I am not, accordingly, prepared to say more than that I hope to introduce several Bills during the coming year on a variety of subjects, which will include one or more Bills on aspects of family law.
