Vol. 281 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Contributions.

67.

asked the Minister for Local Government the approximate cost to each county council and county borough corporation in paying the recent increases in social welfare contributions; and if such costs will be financed by way of revenue or grants.

The information sought by the Deputy as to cost is not available in my Department. The cost of these increases will in the normal way be met partly from revenue and partly from grants to local authorities to the extent to which the remuneration of local authority staff is recoupable from such grants.

Has the Minister any figure for the country of the increase involved to local authorities on an individual basis, or for the 27 local authorities?

I have not that information available.

Would the Minister agree that it is sizeable?

Naturally.
