asked the Minister for Local Government when the pensions of local authority employees will be brought into line with current wage levels; and when the increases in these pensions will be paid.

The pensions of local authority pensioners will be increased with my sanction with effect from 1st July next to bring them into line with the current wage levels. Such increases will be in accordance with approval given by the Minister for the Public Service in respect of public service pensions generally. Payment of the increases will be a matter for the local authorities concerned.
