Vol. 282 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal School Facilities.

26.

asked the Minister for Education the proposals he has for primary school facilities in The Alt, Upper Alt, Tievebrack, Ballylast and Castlefin, County Donegal; and if adequate discussion has taken place with the parents in these areas.

It is proposed to amalgamate Alt No. 2 and Donoughmore National School from the 1st July, 1975. Both schools are under Presbyterian management.

Arrangements are in hand for the extension and adaptation of the existing separate schools for boys and girls in Castlefin so that the two schools may be amalgamated to form one educational unit. In accordance with normal practice there has been consultation with the parents and other local interests concerned in relation to these proposals.

A further proposal in relation to the organisation of primary education in the area is that Alt No. 1 National School be amalgamated in due course with the combined schools in Castlefin. Before a decision is taken the views of the parents of the children concerned and of all other relevant considerations will be taken fully into account.

My Department have no proposals at present affecting Ballylast National School. The school at Tievebrack was amalgamated with the Castlefin schools in 1967.
