Vol. 282 No. 6

Excess Vote, 1972-73. - Vote 2: Houses of the Oireachtas.

Cavan): I move:

That a sum not exceeding £1,933,000 be granted to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of December, 1975, for the salaries and expenses of the Houses of the Oireachtas, including certain grants-in-aid.

Will the Minister state if it would be possible to provide some kind of research grant which could be used to find out what is wrong with the heating system in this House? Would it be possible to accommodate such a small research project under this Vote, or is it a matter for the Office of Public Works?

(Cavan): It is a matter for the Office of Public Works and I will convey the Deputy's request to the Parliamentary Secretary.

The question of office accommodation in this House has been raised on many occasions. I understand there are offices convenient to this House that are available and ready for letting. I also understand that some of the staff in Leinster House could be accommodated in these premises in order to give extra facilities to Deputies. The present position is that eight or ten Deputies are working in one office.

(Cavan): I will ask the Parliamentary Secretary to deal with that.

Vote put and agreed to.
