Vol. 282 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyshannon Hospital.

5.

asked the Minister for Health his plans for the future of Ballyshannon Hospital, County Donegal.

The Deputy will be aware that early in 1974 the work of Ballyshannon District Hospital, known as the Rock, was transferred to the former Sheil Hospital, Ballyshannon. The Rock Hospital is now a welfare home for ambulant geriatric persons and it is proposed that it should continue in that role.

Ballyshannon Hospital, formerly the Sheil, supplies in-patient medical, minor surgical and maternity services which are provided by the hospital's medical officer with consultant support when necessary from Sligo General Hospital. The Sligo consultants hold out-patient medical, obstetrical and gynaecological clinics at Ballyshannon Hospital.

The health board submitted a report to my Department regarding certain further proposed development of services at Ballyshannon Hospital and this report is at present under consideration.
