Vol. 282 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance Claimant.

24.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment assistance has not been paid to a person in County Galway (name supplied) since his entitlement to unemployment benefit expired.

The person concerned has not exhausted the number of days unemployment benefit for which his claim was authorised, but payment of such benefit was suspended as inquiries necessary to establish whether he fulfilled the statutory conditions for the receipt of benefit were in progress. These inquiries have now been completed and arrangements are being made for restoration of benefit and payment of arrears in the course of the present week. The question of his entitlement to unemployment assistance would be a matter for consideration only on exhaustion of benefit and does not, therefore, at present arise.
