asked the Minister for the Public Service if, in view of the immediate availability of a large area of office space at reasonable rates in two modern office blocks in Limerick City and in view of the economic distress there, he will arrange for the transfer of a Government department to Limerick as suggested by the Limerick Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Kenny
As already announced, the Government favour the principle of decentralisation and steps are actively being taken to transfer certain staffs to Athlone, Castlebar and Na Forbacha, Galway.
While the Government have no immediate plans for any further transfers, the question is continuously under review and, when any decision is being taken for further decentralisation, the arguments in favour of Limerick will certainly be borne in mind.
