Vol. 283 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carrick-on-Suir Garda Houses.

19.

asked the Minister for Finance why the three Garda Síochána houses at Castlepark, Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, have not been painted or repaired since 1967; and when it is intended to have this work carried out.

Mr. Kenny

Repair works at these houses were ordered on a contractor last year but I regret that they have not yet been fully completed. A specification for the redecoration of the houses is being prepared and this work together with any outstanding repairs will be put in hands as quickly as possible.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say when the repair works started and when they should have been completed? Nobody else, with the exception of the Parliamentary Secretary, is aware that the repairs were carried out.

Mr. Kenny

Three houses at Carrick-on-Suir were erected by the National Building Agency for the Garda in 1967 and were transferred to the Office of Public Works in 1968-69. Defects subsequently came to notice and, following detailed inspection in 1973, an order was placed in January, 1974 for remedial works to the defective garage roofs at the houses and other miscellaneous repairs. The garage roofs have been repaired but the contractor has failed to put the other works in hand. He is being pressed to complete. The specification for the painting works will cover any repair works needed.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary state when the painting works will be carried out?

Mr. Kenny

The contractor is being pressed.

The Parliamentary Secretary should continue to press the contractor.
