Vol. 284 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Welfare Home.

2.

asked the Minister for Health when work will start on the erection of the welfare home sanctioned for Falcarragh, County Donegal.

A revised report on the cost plan for this home was submitted to my Department on 30th April last. This is at present being examined. The decision on the date of commencement of this project will be taken in the light of available capital resources and the competing claims for other projects in the health field.

Would the Minister not agree that these delaying tactics have been responsible for the increased cost of the home which, if it was built at the time it was sanctioned, would have been built for considerably less money than it will cost now. Will he state whether the board have in fact the money available to build it at all?

There is no money available for 1975, but the project will be considered in conjunction with the consideration of the Estimates for 1976.

The Minister will agree that the cost has gone up since——

All costs have gone up, unfortunately.

How soon will capital begin to flow to health boards again——

That is a separate question.

——to enable such projects to go ahead?

That is a separate question.

It is not. It is related to this question.

The Chair will not be argued with. It is a distinctly separate question.

I am asking whether the Minister can tell me when capital funds will be made available to allow such welfare homes as the one mentioned in the question to go ahead.

That is not the question the Deputy raised initially.

It was, if you listened to me.

I have explained frankly to Deputy Brennan that there is no money this year for this particular home.

Will there be any next year?

It will be considered next year. I cannot commit myself or the Government now.

The Minister does not know?
