Vol. 284 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Housing Allocation.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received a request from Waterford County Council for additional capital allocation for housing; and if, in view of the financial position of the council, he will sanction this allocation immediately.

As regards the council's capital allocation for local authority housing, as I informed the Deputy in my reply of the 25th June, 1975, to his Question No. 6, the present total authorised expenditure of £385,000 is adequate to meet existing commitments and to allow the commencement of the limited amount of new work which was ready to be started so far this year by the council. The council's request for additional funds, over and above those already allocated, is under consideration in conjunction with similar claims from other authorities.

In so far as house purchase loans and supplementary grants are concerned, the initial capital allocation to Waterford County Council for the six month period ended on 30th June was £474,000. When I became aware that this amount had proved inadequate I arranged for the issue from the Local Loans Fund of an extra £56,000 on 25th June, 1975.

I have now notified the county council in common with other local authorities of their allocation for the remainder of the year. This gives them a total allocation of £940,000.
