Vol. 284 No. 4

Written Answers. - Workers Pay Rates.

148.

asked the Taoiseach the present hourly rates of pay of forestry workers, road workers and agricultural workers in the form of the reply to Question No. 266 of 13th May, 1975; and the corresponding rates of pay on the commencement of the second phase of the 1975 national agreement.

The following statement gives for each county (1) the present (a) hourly equivalent, to the nearest 1p, of the basic weekly time rate of wages paid to forestry workers, (b) hourly equivalent of the weekly rates paid by county councils to road workers for a 40-hour week, (c) hourly equivalent of the minimum weekly rates payable to adult male agricultural workers under the Agricultural Wages (Minimum Rates) Order, 1975, for a 50-hour week which operates in the period March to October.

The appropriate second phase payable under clause 3 (d) of the national agreement is 5 per cent or £1 a week if this is greater. The rates of pay on the commencement of the second phase of the 1975 national agreement shown in (2) have been calculated by increasing the current weekly amounts by 5 per cent and converting to hourly equivalents to the nearest 1p.

The responsibility for fixing minimum rates of pay for adult male agricultural workers under the Agricultural Wages Orders is placed by statute on the Agricultural Wages Board. The minimum wage rates are revised from time to time as the board may consider appropriate. The minimum rates given in the reply came into effect on 23rd June, 1975 and the Agricultural Wages Board has not since announced any further increases in these rates.
