Vol. 284 No. 5

Written Answers. - FEOGA Projects.

34.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if any of the 14 FEOGA projects announced by him on the 16th July, 1975, which were approved for grants from the EEC, will benefit the Laois-Offaly area; if any were submitted from his area; and, if so, why the sums as announced by him were not provided.

A total of 17 projects in the Laois-Offaly area were the subject of applications to the EEC Commission under the 1974 scheme of FEOGA grants for the improvement of structural efficiency in agriculture and fisheries. Three of these cases were approved for grants and a number are eligible for carry forward for consideration under the 1975 scheme. The funds available for the scheme are limited and greatly exceeded by the total of the applications received by the Commission. The Commission accordingly have the function of deciding which of the projects submitted are to receive grant aid.
