asked the Minister for Education the cost for each pupil or student in each of the following types of educational establishment during the financial year 1973-74: primary schools, secondary schools participating in the free education scheme, secondary schools not participating in the free education scheme, comprehensive schools, community schools, vocational schools regional technical colleges, higher technological colleges, university colleges and teachers' training colleges of education.

The information sought by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the official report.

Following is the statement:

The estimated current costs (i.e. not including capital expenditure) to the State of each pupil in the financial year 1973-74 is as follows:—

(1) The cost element in respect of the technological colleges in Dublin, Cork, and Limerick cannot be isolated since these institutions are conducted by the respective vocational education committees as part of their ordinary scheme.

(2) Includes cost of board and accommodation.
