Vol. 285 No. 1

Written Answers. - Natural Gas Reserves.

502.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the estimated economically recoverable reserves of natural gas in the various known gas fields off the Irish coast; and the present estimated yearly extraction rates for the natural gas from these various gas fields for each of the years 1979, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1990.

Natural gas recoverable in economic quantities has to date been found in only one field, that is the Kinsale Head field. That field is estimated to contain one million million cubic feet of gas.

It is envisaged that gas will be extracted from the field at an average rate of 125 million cubic feet per day during each of the years referred to by the Deputy, though some variations on that figure may occur in 1979 and 1980 depending on the initial delivery date of gas from the field.
