Vol. 285 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Liquid Petroleum Gas Usage.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is satisfied that the large number of petrol-driven vechiles converted to burn liquefied petroleum gas do not constitute a particular hazard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am advised that a motor vehicle which is converted to use liquid petroleum gas, and which is properly equipped for the purpose, does not thereby constitute a particular hazard. Any such vehicles are of course subject to the general requirement under the Road Traffic Acts that all motor vehicles shall be so constructed, equipped and maintained that while in use in a public place they shall not constitute a danger to any person and the responsibility for the safe condition of the vehicle rests on the owner. The question of the safety of vechiles using liquid petroleum gas is one which is being examined in a number of countries and I am keeping in touch with these developments.
