Vol. 285 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Burial Ground.

21.

asked the Minister for Lands if Laois County Council will be provided with a site for a burial ground from the Land Commission lands adjacent to Borris-in-Ossory.

(Cavan): I understand that officials of the Laois County Council have already inspected one of the properties which the Land Commission have on hands adjacent to Borris-in-Ossory and have indicated that a suitable site for a burial ground could not be provided thereon. Arrangements are now being made to enable the county council to view two other Land Commission properties in the area and if a suitable site is found the council's application will be given the fullest consideration by the Land Commission.

Can I take it from the Minister's statement that, subject to the suitability of the land, there will not be any difficulty about that area being allocated in the coming spring.

(Cavan): The Deputy may take it that if a suitable site can be found and there are no serious reasons why the Land Commission should not make it available, that they will do so. I cannot give a blanket undertaking that the first site selected will be allocated because there might be a reason why it would not be available. The Deputy may take it that the Land Commission approach will be reasonable and anxious to facilitate.
