Vol. 285 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Central Telephone Exchange.

11.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of dissatisfaction among staff at the Central Telephone Exchange due to the lack of facilities there; and if he considers that Government Departments should set a lead in improving working conditions.

12.

(Dublin Central) asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the dissatisfaction felt by the male night telephonists at the Central Telephone Exchange regarding facilities at the exchange; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 11 and 12 together.

It is the general policy in my Department to provide accommodation and working conditions for the staff comparable to those in good outside employments and the facilities in the Central Telephone Exchange measure up to this standard. Matters about which the staff are dissatisfied —and such matters do arise from time to time—can be, and are, brought to notice by the recognised staff organisations either directly or through the Departmental Conciliation Council.
