Vol. 285 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol Storage Tanks.

20.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider sinking petrol tanks near or in the Garda Depot, Phoenix Park, or at Leinster House to ensure that public servants will be able to carry out their duties in the event of a petrol strike.

There is a large storage tank at the Garda Depot and there are smaller ones at some other Garda centres for the supply of petrol for official Garda vehicles.

I might add that the question of increasing the storage capacity available to the Garda is under consideration.

The question deals with more than the Garda Depot. I have in mind people employed in essential Government services. We should have storage capacity for them so that, in the event of a cut-off of petrol supplies, the essential institutions of the State can continue to function.

The Deputy can take it that lack of petrol will not prevent that happening.

It is something to consider.
