Since I understand that the Deputy has put down a similar question to the Minister for Defence and to no other Ministers, I assume that he is referring to recruitment to the Garda Síochána.
The maximum strength of the Garda Síochána is prescribed in an Order made by the Government and that strength has now been reached. A decision to increase the maximum strength of the force would be a matter for the Government and I am not in a position to say whether any such increase will be decided on. I expect, however, that an entrance competition will be held soon, probably early in 1976, with a view to filling vacancies occurring in the normal course.
