Vol. 286 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Road Grant.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total amount of grant from the Road Fund which will be made available to Offaly County Council for 1976; and the amounts for local improvement schemes.

The grant allocations for 1976 have not yet been determined.

Would the Minister keep in mind the roads in Offaly because we have a vast amount of bog in that county and owing to the dry spell the roads have deteriorated a lot? I hope that the Minister will be able to give us an extra amount of money. He may have got a recommendation from the local authority on this.

I know that some of them are very bad. Deputy Connolly is aware that in 1971-72 only £167,560 was available. This went up to £408,500 this year but it still is not enough. I am considering a way in which it may be possible to spread the money available to be of more use to some of the roads which badly need repair and have not got the attention they deserve. I will have more to say about that later on.
