Vol. 286 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Pier.

15.

asked the Minister for Finance if plans are complete for restructuring work and the provision of berthage facilities at Cahirciveen Pier, County Kerry; if so, if the money to carry out the work has been allocated; and when work will start.

Tenders have been invited for the improvement of the landing facilities and the deepening of the berthage at Cahirciveen. Further progress with the proposed scheme must await consideration of the tenders received for the work.

This has been at tender stage for a long time and I should like to know when work will start. When will tenders be decided on?

I cannot accept the Deputy's suggestion that tenders have been sought for a long time. The scheme was advertised on 3rd October, 1975, and the closing date was set as 13th November, 1975. The tenders are now being considered.

This scheme has been on the go for about five years. Would the Parliamentary Secretary not agree that it is time it was resolved because it is necessary for the development of fisheries there?

I was appointed on 30th September and it was advertised on 3rd October. I am sure the Deputy will agree that that was fast going.
