Vol. 286 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tourist Accommodation.

17.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he proposes to have a survey made to establish the tourist accommodation needs, other than those provided for by hotels and guesthouses, for the years ahead; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by Bord Fáilte that the tourism development plan 1976-1980, to be published early next year, will include a review of the various forms of visitor accommodation. The plan will also contain recommendations on future requirements of visitors' accommodation in terms of the availability of a stock of accommodation suitable to customer needs. Such stock should have the capability of developing, adapting and extending to meet foreseeable change in patterns of demand.

Would the Minister accept that there is a marked trend in most countries away from hotels and guesthouses and that we must plan accordingly?

Yes, of course we must try to foresee what the demands will be during those years and have the accommodation available for the people then.
