asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the number of prosecutions brought by fishery boards for breaches of the Fisheries Acts in 1973, 1974 and 1975; and the local authorities, if any, prosecuted during this period, the nature of the offences for which they were charged and the outcome.

The number of prosecutions brought by fishery boards for breaches of the Fisheries Acts in 1973, 1974 and 1975 was 339, 226 and 359 respectively.

The following local authorities were prosecuted during this period: Nenagh, Dundalk and Thurles Urban District Councils and Laois, Cork (2), Longford, Clare and Tipperary North Riding County Councils. The charge in each case related to pollution. Convictions were secured in seven cases, one being quashed on appeal. Two cases have been adjourned.
