Vol. 287 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Car Seat Belts.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the EEC Commission has yet developed formal proposals with regard to motor car seat belts and seat belt anchorages; and, if not, if he will make interim regulations in respect of them.

The Commission's proposals for manufacturing standards for seat belts have not yet been adopted by the council. Regulations made in 1971 under the Road Traffic Acts already prescribe the standards for belts to be used in this country.

With regard to anchorages, the Commission's proposals were adopted by the council in December, 1975, to take effect in 1977. Any necessary amendment of the existing regulations under the Road Traffic Acts will be made accordingly.
