My Department's responsibility in regard to the provision of airstrips is limited to giving technical advice and to determining the suitability of proposed sites.
The position regarding airstrips at the three locations mentioned is as follows: (a) Achill Island—no application for a licence has been made to my Department; (b) Erris—I am not aware of any proposals for an airstrip at this location; (c) Clare Island—a site was examined by an aeronautical officer of my Department in 1971 and his findings were made available to the Clare Island Airstrip Co. The company has not followed up the matter.
