Vol. 287 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Dublin Garda Station.

165.

asked the Minister for Justice if and when he intends to provide a Garda station for Portmarnock, County Dublin.

166.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will increase the number of gardaí stationed at Malahide, County Dublin.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 165 and 166 together.

A survey of the police needs of the Malahide/Portmarnock/Baldoyle areas has been caried out by the Garda research and planning unit. Before a final decision is taken on the question of erecting a station in the Portmarnock area it is, however, desirable that consideration be given to any relevant recommendations which may be made by the management consultants who are at present carrying out an assignment in relation to the Garda. I would hope that a final decision in this matter can be made within the next few months.

The commissioner has informed me that an extra garda has recently been assigned to Malahide and that, having regard to overall demands on Garda services it is not possible to increase further the strength of the station at present. The position will, however, be kept under review.
