Vol. 287 No. 8

Written Answers. - New House Prices.

186.

asked the Minister for Local Government the increase, expressed in terms of amount and percentage, in the gross price of new houses for which loans were approved by local authorities in the period May, 1973 to December, 1975.

Statistics of new house prices are compiled by my Department on a quarterly basis, and the latest figures available are those for the quarter ended 30th September, 1975. The average gross price of new houses purchased from speculative builders for which loans were approved by local authorities increased from £5,708 in the quarter ended 30th June, 1973, to £7,907 in the quarter ended 30th September, 1975. This was an increase of 38.5 per cent.
