asked the Minister for Local Government if he proposes to introduce a scheme of pollution charges as operated in a number of European countries.

There is no power under existing legislation to require the payment of such charges. The matter will arise for consideration in connection with legislative proposals on water pollution to be introduced in the Seanad in the near future.

70.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the fact that contingency plans have been prepared against oil pollution in the Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary areas, similar plans will be made for the port of Dublin.

The local authorities concerned and the Port and Docks Board have prepared a contingency plan for clearance of oil pollution for the Dublin area including the port.
