Vol. 288 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Wicklow School.

107.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in relation to a post-primary school (name supplied) in County Wicklow (a) whether such a school is recognised by his Department as a secondary school (b) whether any sums are paid to the school in lieu of tuition fees (c) the number of recognised secondary pupils in the school (d) the number of recognised pupils reckoned by his Department in its calculations for the amount to be paid to the school in lieu of tuition fees (e) the number of pupils in (d) above who are (i) day pupils and (ii) boarding pupils and (f) if any sums are paid by his Department under (b) above, the actual amounts, the regulations under which sums are paid and if he will ensure that a copy of the regulations is placed in the Oireachtas Library.

(a) The school in question is recognised by my Department as a secondary school; (b) No sums are paid to the school in lieu of tuition fees; (c) The number of secondary pupils provisionally recognised by my Department in the school for the current school year is 182.

Sections (d), (e) and (f) of the question do not apply as the school did not opt to participate in the free education scheme.

A copy of the Department's circular letter to schools is being made available in the Oireachtas Library. The rules for the payment of grants to secondary schools—P.R. No. 4072— are already available in the Library.
