Vol. 288 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Documents Exports.

28.

asked the Minister for Education if he will introduce legislation to limit the uncontrolled export of Anglo-Irish manuscripts and documents.

There is already provision, under the Documents and Pictures (Regulation of Export) Act, 1945 for the control of export of documents, other than a document wholly in print, which are over 100 years old, or declared by the Minister to be of national, historical, genealogical or literary interest.

Such documents may not be exported without a licence from the Minister for Education who may, if he considers it necessary, have the opportunity to make photographic copies before the export licence is granted.
