Vol. 288 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Oil Rig Construction.

34.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is satisfied that Irish firms are obtaining sufficient experience of the type of welding that will be necessary in the construction of oil rigs et cetera.

I am satisfied that the basic skills exist in Irish firms for carrying out the type of welding necessary in the construction of steel oil rigs. I understand that the companies concerned are confident that, if they obtained orders for rigs or sections of rigs, there would be no serious problem about extending the range of their present experience. I understand also that AnCO is providing training in this field.
