Vol. 288 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Duty-Free Facilities.

36.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make duty-free facilities available to travellers on the routes between Great Britain and Ireland.

Representations made to me recently, in favour of making duty-free facilities available to travellers on the routes between the State and Great Britain, are under consideration.

Can the Minister state when there will be a conclusion to this matter?

The Deputy will appreciate that matters of this kind involve the British Government as well as this Government. It is not possible to say when the consideration will be completed.

Can the Minister say if it is at an advanced stage at the moment?

I think that would be a fair description.

Can the Minister say when there will be a conclusion?

No. As I said, it involves a contribution from another party.
