Vol. 288 No. 12

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

54.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision will issue on the application for unemployment assistance made by a person (name supplied) in County Galway.

There is no decision outstanding in this case. The weekly rate of unemployment assistance of the person concerned was reduced as from 24th September, 1975, when a deciding officer reassessed his weekly rate of means for unemployment assistance purposes. He appealed against the revised assessment but an appeals officer upheld the decision of the deciding officer. An appeals officer's decision is final in the absence of new facts or fresh evidence. Payments of unemployment assistance are continuing at the appropriate rate as they fall due.

55.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when pay-related benefit will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare.

Entitlement to pay-related benefit on the claim made by the person concerned on 30th August, 1975, depended on his earnings in the 1973-74 income tax year. He has not so far furnished either his correct PAYE number, or a certificate of his earnings for the year in question though requested to do so. The Department are continuing independent inquiries to ascertain the claimant's earnings in the relevant income tax year. As soon as this information comes to hand a decision on his claim for pay-related benefit will be made without delay.
