Vol. 289 No. 5

Finance Bill, 1976: First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to charge and impose certain duties of customs and inland revenue (including excise), to amend the law relating to customs and inland revenue (including excise) and to make further provisions in connection with finance.
—(Minister for Finance.)

When is the Bill likely to be circulated?

On a point of procedure, is it necessary to have a formal First Stage? I thought that it had become the practice merely to fix a date for a Second Reading.

There are alternatives—introduction or presentation.

If it is being introduced today I do not see any necessity for a double dose.

Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, 7th April, 1976.

We are agreeing but with the usual reservations since we do not know what is in the Bill.

The Bill's contents were announced on 28th January.

But the farmers have told the Minister what to take out of it.

Many people have told me what to leave out of it.
