Vol. 289 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway City Industries.

6.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of State aided new industries started in Galway city in each year since 1965 for which a new factory building had to be constructed with State aid.

I have been informed by the Industrial Development Authority that the numbers of new grant aided industries which started production in Galway city since 1965 in factories constructed with State aid are as follows:

1965 and 1966—None; 1967—1; 1968—1; 1969—4; 1970—6; 1971—3; 1972—2; 1973—1; 1974—3; 1975—1; 1976—1.

I should mention that the project which commenced in 1975 started up in an existing premises to which a new grant aided extension was added.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that before 1965 a number of these firms had closed down and were reopened by the present Government?
