Vol. 290 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Service.

9.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why a person (name supplied) in County Offaly has not been granted telephone service in his shop and house.

The application was made on 2nd March last and service was provided to both premises on 26th April. There was some delay, which I regret, owing to pressure of work in the section concerned.

10.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether a new telephone exchange has yet been completed and occupied at Letterkenny, County Donegal.

A new auto-manual exchange building is being erected in Letterkenny and the Commissioners of Public Works advise that the building should be completed by July next at which stage the office and welfare accommodation will be occupied. Equipment for the exchange which is on order is expected to be installed and operational in 1979.

Is the Minister aware or will he seek to find out if there is any truth in the suggestion locally that the building planned is not suitable for the equipment which has been ordered and that there is quite a problem in the offing? I am not charging the Minister with that but merely asking if he will ascertain what the situation is because I believe that this is the case.

That is the first time I heard such a suggestion. I shall certainly have it investigated and I shall communicate with the Deputy.
