Vol. 290 No. 2

Written Answers. - Offaly Lands.

49.

asked the Minister for Lands why a person (name supplied) in County Tipperary was not allowed purchase land (details supplied) in County Offaly; and if he will state the position regarding these lands as there seems to be no congestion in the area.

Proceedings for the compulsory acquisition of the property referred to had reached an advanced stage when the application for the consent to the sale of the lands to the person mentioned was received. The application was nevertheless fully considered by the Land Commission, but having regard to the extent of local congestion consent to sale was refused. It was ascertained that the proposed purchaser's husband already held a substantial holding in the same locality.

In the circumstances the Land Commission decided to continue the proceedings.
