asked the Minister for Health if the price of drugs in Ireland is generally higher than in EEC countries; and, if so, if he will take steps to enforce a reduction in the prices being charged here.

The prices of drugs in this country are generally higher than in Britain but not as high as in some other EEC countries.

The Department of Industry and Commerce have the primary responsibility for price control of drugs. My Department keep in regular contact with that Department on the desirability of maintaining a reasonable price level.
