Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Equal Pay.

24.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will clarify the present position of the Government on the implementation of equal pay in accordance with the spirit and principle of the Anti-Discrimination (Pay) Act, 1974.

The provisions of the Anti-Discrimination (Pay) Act, 1974, are operative since 31st December, 1975, without qualification. As and from 31st December, 1975, women doing like work with men are entitled to the same rate of remuneration. Different rates of remuneration on grounds of sex for like work in the public service have been abolished as and from 31st December, 1975.

A dispute between an employer and an employee about equal pay may be referred by either party to the dispute to an equal pay officer for investigation and recommendation. Two equal pay officers have been appointed to deal with such disputes.
