Vol. 290 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin College of Music.

5.

asked the Minister for Education the proposals put before him from the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee and the Teachers' Union of Ireland under the auspices of the Labour Court to resolve the dispute in the College of Music, Dublin; the additional cost to his Department of these proposals; if he is aware of the serious imbalance which has arisen between the number of part-time teachers and whole-time teachers in the College; and if he will undertake to review the staff structure of the College with a view to parity with that of a college within the VEC system.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply of 8th April, 1976, to a previous question concerning the dispute in the Dublin College of Music. Developments in the meantime have resulted in the formulation by my Department of a further proposal for the resolution of the dispute which is expected to be the subject of further discussions between the parties concerned under the auspices of the conciliation service of the Labour Court.

In these circumstances, I do not consider that it would be appropriate for me to make any further statement in the matter at this stage.
