Vol. 290 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Limerick Unemployment.

3.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the serious unemployment position in the Foynes area of County Limerick; and the proposals, if any, before his Department to remedy the situation.

I have been informed by Shannon Free Airport Development Company that while the port area of Foynes had a slack period from October to February last, activity in the area has increased considerably since then. The performance of manufacturing industry in the west Limerick area including Foynes has been reasonably satisfactory; manufacturing employment in this area increased in 1975. The company are not aware of any serious unemployment in the area at present but nevertheless continuing their efforts to attract additional industry to the area.
