Vol. 291 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Widow's Pension Application.

8.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a decision has yet been reached on the application of a person (name supplied) in County Tipperary for a widow's pension; and the reason for the delay since 16th September 1975 in processing the application.

A widow's non-contributory pension at a reduced rate was awarded to the person named by the Deputy on the 10th May, 1976. The award took effect from the 8th September, 1975, the day following the death of the applicant's husband.

The delay in processing the claim was due partly to difficulty in correctly establishing the applicant's means, and partly to pressure of work on the local investigating officer. I very much regret the delay in dealing with the case.
