Vol. 291 No. 2

Written Answers. - Unemployment Benefit Claim.

94.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will grant unemployment benefit back to the date a person (name supplied) in County Meath was let off work in view of the fact that there were no social welfare stamps in the post office in Trim at the time and this person's card could not be stamped until last week with the result that he was not allowed to sign on at the labour exchange.

The person concerned did not make a claim for unemployment benefit until 10th May, 1976, and payment of benefit was made to him with effect from that date subject to the usual three-day waiting period. As he may have been under a misapprehension as to his position, in view of the circumstances referred to in the Deputy's question, arrangements have now been made to enable him to furnish evidence of unemployment from 17th April, 1976. Payment of any arrears of unemployment benefit due will be made to him during the present week.
