Vol. 291 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Factory Employment.

24.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of former employees of a firm who have been given employment by the new management of the factory at Shantalla, Galway.

The legal formalities for the transfer of the factory from the receiver to the new owners have not yet been completed and recruitment of staff has, therefore, not yet commenced. I understand, however, that the new management will be prepared to consider all suitable former employees of the factory for jobs, when recruitment commences.

Could the Minister say when it is expected that recruitment will commence?

Yes, sometime in the middle of late August.

I should like, with your permission, Sir, to raise on the Adjournment, in the interest of adoptive parents especially and of the public generally, the Supreme Court decision of yesterday. I would be hoping that the Minister who is the authority on this matter would then have the opportunity of removing the anguish and anxiety from the minds of adoptive parents.

I will communicate with the Deputy but he appreciates that there can be no elaboration on the matter now.
