Vol. 291 No. 15

Written Answers. - Children's Court Remands.

81.

asked the Minister for Education if any improvements have been made in the situation of children remanded by the Children's Court in Dublin so that they may be sent to proper accommodation while awaiting the next stage of the trial.

The majority of children charged before the Children's Court in Dublin and placed on remand continue to reside in their own homes. The question of residential accommodation away from home arises only for a minority of children where the court either considers remand in custody or remand for prolonged observation and assessment to be required in the circumstances of the particular child.

Finglas Children's Centre provides remand and assessment facilities for approximately 360 boys each year. There is little or no delay at present in arranging admissions to the centre. Three smaller centres in Dublin provide remand facilities for girls.
