Vol. 293 No. 1

Written Answers. - Port and Docks Board Superannuation Scheme.

105.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the terms on which the superannuation scheme proposals for Dublin Port and Docks Board employees were approved; the details of any modification in the scheme received in his Department subsequent to 17th February, 1976; and the decision made by his Department.

Dublin Port and Docks Board have two superannuation schemes, the officers scheme and the employees grade A scheme. Proposals for amendment of both schemes are under consideration. The proposed amendments to the officers scheme are to provide that temporary service with the board or with a local authority, or unestablished service in the civil service, will be reckoned in full for the purposes of the superannuation scheme, provided that it is continuous with established service and that temporary service with the board will be treated as temporary service with a local authority for the purposes of the Superannuation Acts and the Local Government Superannuation Acts. Modified amendments of the scheme were approved in my Department on 25th May, 1976. Proposals to amend the employees grade A superannuation scheme are to change the basis of pension from one-sixtieth to one-eightieth plus lump sum, to increase the benefit for death in service, and to make provision for widows' and orphans' pensions. Modified amendments of this scheme were approved on 25th November, 1975.

Both schemes are at present the subject of discussions between the board and the trade unions. When these details have been agreed amending schemes will be submitted to me for confirmation.
