Vol. 293 No. 1

Written Answers. - Free Legal Aid.

112.

asked the Minister for Justice if he intends to provide State free legal aid for cases involving (a) applications and proceedings under the Family Law (Maintenance of Spouses and Children) Act, 1976, (b) proceedings under the Protection of Family Homes Act, 1976 and (c) proceedings under the Adoption Acts.

I am at present awaiting a report from the committee which I appointed to advise me on the introduction of a comprehensive scheme of legal aid and advice in civil matters. I understand that the committee's work is nearing finality and that a report may be expected in the near future.

I consider that it would be inappropriate for me to take any decisions in regard to the introduction of legal aid in the types of case referred to in advance of consideration of the committee's report.
